In Europe, Australia and Canada, silicone gel implants are the preference of the majority of surgeons and patients for optimal aesthetic outcomes. Your surgeon will discuss whether silicone-filled or saline-filled implants are best for you.
Both silicone-filled and saline-filled implants have an outer casing made of silicone.
The Allergan Collection offers three choices of silicone in consistencies that range from very soft to a very high and firmer cohesive gel; the latter creates a form stable implant – that is, it retains the original shape of the implant in the longer term. Silicone implants are available in a wide range of shapes (height, width and projection), making it easier to customise the right fit to suit you.
You should consult with your surgeon about which implant may best suit your needs.
Sometimes women prefer a saline filled implant. A saline implant requires a smaller surgical incision, but it does not have the softer feel of silicone. If the casing of the implant leaks, the implant spontaneously deflates and the saline is absorbed into the body. Small ridges may be more visible in a very thin person.
Talk to your surgeon to find out whether silicone or saline implants are most suited to you.
